Jim Parsons, is currently Programme Leader for the Live Sound degree course and is based at dBs Music Plymouth (soon Bristol). He is one of the most experienced live sound engineers and academic audio professionals in the country.
Starting from an Oxfordshire lock-up garage in the 1980s Jim developed his PA Hire company Tiger Hire and turned it into a respected industry name, resulting in being presented with the Total Production Award PA Company of the Year in 2003. Some of his incredible career highlights have included a large UNESCO show in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1995, 10 years as stage manager at the JVC International Jazz Festival in Nice, France and managing the sound for large Radiohead open-air shows in Europe and UK.
In 2005 Jim returned to the West Country to initially take care of the dBs Music Foundation degree in Live Sound, before helping dBs Music launch the BA (Hons) degree. Jim's main aspiration, in addition to making the dBs Music Live Sound degree even more successful, is to work towards an industry wide consensus on the skills, attributes and standards that should make a live sound professional in the 21st century.
