Tutor Profile - Gill Sargent

Gill is an innovative and experienced education leader who has 20 years experience working for music production and media HE programmes. Gill holds; an MA Educational Leadership and Management, a PGCE Life Long Learning, a BSc Social Sciences with History & Philosophy, is a certified Pro Tools instructor, a Final Cut Pro Advanced user, a Higher Education Academy Fellow and a member of the Institute of Leadership & Management.

She has an extensive and eclectic portfolio career in the cultural industries which spans working; as a vocalist in a 7 piece pop band, songwriting, marketing and managing the band’s independent label ‘Broken Biscuit’, engineering, programming and producing dance music, brand managing [MIDEM Cannes, AES Paris & New York] and sound engineering at Moles Studio. She has worked as a journalist for Bristol’s Galaxy Radio, a guest presenter alongside Miranda on The Word Ujima radio, produced music videos including work broadcast on BBC2 Dance Energy and sound designer for Bristol sculptor Kate Parsons.

Gill has project managed a considerable number of music events, as a production manager, stage manager and artist liaison manger, including; stage manager Ashton Court Festival, artist liaison manager Glastonbury Festival, artist liaison manager [6 stages] Essential Festival, music and media production manager Volksfest Weekender and worked with music legends including; James Brown, Amy Whitehouse, and Eddy Grant. Gill’s career has included a commitment to mentoring young people through youth music projects and she has been acknowledged with two Arts Council National Awards for her work with young people in Bristol, including Roni Size - Reprazent.

Gill taught music production and sound recording for 12 years whilst at Weston College and past students include Bristol music producer Redlight and current dBs Music tutors Sam Fergusson, Dan McNab, Jenn Haneef, and Josh Hills! Gill joined the dBs Music Bristol HE team at its inception and the students always comment that the research dissertation is the most mind stretching and enjoyable part of the HE experience."
