It's with great sadness we discover the passing of Phil Curtis, a member of staff that joined dBs Music in the very beginning. Among many other accolades and stories, Phil had worked with artists such as Arthur Brown, Kiki Dee, The Bay City Rollers, worked as a session player and toured the world. Here he is below performing with Kiki Dee on the BBC.
A fantastic bass player and tutor his enthusiasm, experience and knowledge made him extremely popular. He was a huge asset to dBs Music and loved by everyone who he tutored and worked alongside. We wanted to pass on our thoughts to his family and share a few tributes to Phil...
"We are extremely devastated to hear of the passing of a dBs Music legend this week. Phil Curtis joined the company in the very early days and inspired many students and indeed staff with his knowledge and stories of the music industry. Phil has a wonderful and well-documented career, a great bass player, a musical genius but more importantly, a true gentleman and all round wonderful man. Phil will be greatly missed - the world has lost a good one. Our condolences and best wishes go to all of Phil’s family and friends. RIP Phil." - Nigel Burt, Director, dBs Music.
"He was so fundamental in so many student's musical journey. I can say without a doubt that without Phil I wouldn't have the career I do today as a musician. He single handedly convinced me to pursue it and supported me through everything." - Sophie Danielle Lord, former student and Bass player.
All our thoughts at dBs Music go to Phil’s family and friends.
