Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. Often imitated but never duplicated. We'll dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable freebies are worth double clicking each week.
This week's Free Software Friday treat is a plugin that Plymouth and Bristol HE tutor, Stu Welsh has been using on a few mixes recently. Complete with a great-looking interface SonEQ is a three band EQ with two filters. The Low band control with Boost and Attenuate and the 20, 30, 60, 100Hz selection is reminiscent of a hardware PulTec EQ but it is not a straight emulation.
The most useful thing about this plugin is the pre-amp and drive sections. The drive section work particularly well on drum busses and drum machines. It's also a 64-bit plugin which supports sampling rates of up to 192kHz. A useful mix tool, especially for free. Best of all, as always SonEQ is free znd available as a VST/AU/AAX plugin for Mac and Windows.
