Free Software Friday - UnitedPlugins | QuickBass

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

Sitting on some solid bass recordings that need a little extra flourish? We've been working with QuickBass from UnitedPlugins and enjoying the end results.

QuickBass is a fully-featured and paid for plugin ($99), but has a free version to take for a test spin - but the way that translates is a little different to other plugins. We'll explain…

Downloading the free version of the plugin actually grants you a 15-day trial with unlimited use of all QuickBass' features - which we'll get to shortly - before reverting to what the developer refers to as a 'second-hand free version' which retains much of the functionality, but not the ability to tweak certain parameters.

It's built with an array of presets to suit all manner of styles. These presets remain once the plugin reverts to the free version, but cannot be tweaked. However, any presets made while you have access to the full version can still be accessed.

Alongside these presets there's a number of individual parameter controls, from the type of playing - finger, slap, or pick - subbass and a doubler control to really emphasise the lower end, saturation to add some crunch and also compression.

There are obviously many combinations of plugins out there that can be used to refine your bass recordings, but for what you get and also the unique UI, QuickBass is well worth checking out, particularly if you're at the early stages of getting into music production.

QuickBass is available for Windows and macOS (64-bit VST2/VST3/AU/AAX) and can be downloaded for free using the link below.
