Free Software Friday - Tokyo Dawn Records VOS SlickEQ

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

When it comes to tone shapers without a price tag, Tokyo Dawn Records' VOS SlickEQ sits proudly at the top of the pack.

This semi-parametric EQ offers three (and a half) filter bands, alongside four distinct EQ modes (American, British, Soviet and German). SlickEQ uses a knob-only interface that offers no analyser displays or graphs to distract you, so you can focus purely on what your ears are hearing.

When you're looking for that extra bit of warmth SlickEQ provides non-linearity controls to its four modes, with four different saturation models. Each adds some nice subtle additions into the mix, simulating the character associated with classic pieces of analogue hardware.

Other nice features include an auto gain option that automatically compensates for changes in perceived loudness, and there's an A/B option for trialing different settings.

SlickEQ is available to download for free using the link below, and if you like it, you can upgrade to the Gentleman's Edition for €30 and unlock a new EQ mode, more controls and an analyser.
