Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
When a track seems to be going nowhere, it's hard to break through that block and get things moving again. While there are a lot of tools and techniques to help, we think that the recently released Brandulator 2.0 is a fantastic way to reinvigorate your tracks.
Before we get to the good stuff, this plugin is Windows-only, so any Mac users will have to gaze on longingly.
Let's start with the basics. Brandulator 2.0 is a complex sound processor that can apply and combine multiple FX to your audio and completely transform it. Once you've fed it your audio, Brandulator splits the signal into 16 steps/intervals based on the tempo of your track.
Here's where things get really fun and you can really start messing with your sounds. Effects include a comb filter, trance gate, vocoder, wah-wah, chorus, flanger, phaser, ring modulation and more.
The plugin has three channels, each of which comes with independent controls for volume and panning. With these channels you can create a stereo image or stack sounds together to create unique sounds. Effects are found in the drop-down menu of the plugin, where you'll also find 300+ musical scales, which is a really great feature when trying to experiment with the feel of a track. There's some equally great randomisation options if your idea isn't fixed and you want to experiment.
Brandulator is free to download for Windows (64-bit / VST2/VST3) using the link below.
