Free Software Friday - Slate Digital Revival

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

Steven Slate and his company Slate Digital have always been a bastion of smart plugins that lean on the classic tones of the past but push forward the sound and usability of digital technologies. This simple looking free plugin is yet another great example of that ethos.

Built around a simple two-knob design of thickness and shimmer, it's quite self explanatory what these sound like. But it's much more than simple equalisation going on here. Multiple clever algorithms are in play. Again, leaning on classic tones; aspects of tubes, tape, transformers and world-class analog filters are combined into a simple front end and it can be used on individual tracks, busses and even the master channel for tightening up your sound. We loved it on drum busses as a simple sparkle and bottom-end oopf enhancer!
