Free Software Friday - SampleScience G-Town Church Sampling Project

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

SampleScience's latest free offering takes the form of G-Town Church Sampling Project; a collection of recordings from a local church in Grebbestad, Sweden captured by Tobias Marberger; a producer, sound designer and composer for film and video games.

The magic of hearing sound and music within a church is universal; taking on an entirely new character and becoming a much grander affair. That sense of scale - owing to the amazing reverb within a church - is fully on show with this sample selection, both in the quality and quantity of what's on offer.

Including 1,048 samples, Tobias has recorded a broad range of instruments for this pack including but not limited to anvils, waterbowl, stomps, organ, toy glockenspiel, bongos and piano FX. Though we've yet to apply them to any of our current productions, just listening to the samples sparked so many ideas and the quality is excellent.

Another great addition comes courtesy of S. Christian Collins who has converted all the samples included to Sfz format, which means they can be used on the free sforzando Sfz sample player allowing you to be more creative in your experimentation using them.

G-Town Church Sampling Project is 424MB (747MB when unarchived), and you can download it for free using the link below.
