Free Software Friday - Organic Calfskin Kit

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

We can't remember the last time that we shared an acoustic drum kit plugin for Free Software Friday, but our pick this week stood out so much that we couldn't miss it. Created by Organic Drum Loops, the Organic Calfskin Kit is a versatile and great sounding sample library with tons of flexibility.

So what's on offer here? Well, first of all the entire sample library is 1.1GB, which means that the samples within all sound excellent. These sounds can be controlled through a number of tweak-able parameters including gain and pan controls for individual mic'd sections of the kit, which can also be routed through another effect within your DAW.

There's also the option to set the hi-hat openings by BPM and then, most interestingly, there are global controls to alter the gain and pitch bend as well as a weirdness setting. Sufficed to say that things can go from normal to avant-garde to ridiculous in no time at all. You can also change the sound of the kit with the three articulation options; sticks, brushes or mallets.

Organic Calfskin Kit is free to download for both Windows (7/8/10, 64-bit) and macOS (OS X 10.13.6 and above - Catalina compatible) as a VST3 plugin using the link below.

Installation is manual, which means you need to extract the files from the zipped folder and put them in your VST3 folder (instructions are on the download page).
