Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
This week we're taking a look at GMH Audio's Wave Destroyer, an audio distortion plugin that has some excellent potential not only as a distortion plugin, but also a sound design tool thanks to its frequency shaping features.
Armed with a "massive range of tones", the Wave Destroyer comes with a handful of unique controls to tweak the sound to your heart's content. The plugin features three distortion modes: Saturate, Distort and Destroy, which should give a clear indication of the kind of sonic possibilities on offer here. These modes can then be customised using the Drive, Asymmetry and Bias controls.
Wave Destroyer also includes both Pre and Post-EQ stages, which feature five adjustable frequency bands and can be linked together. Alongside this you will also find input and output gain adjustment controls, oversampling, a DC filter, mix control and a bypass switch.
Whether you're looking to add a little saturation to your audio or completely obliterate it, Wave Destroyer is well worth giving a go, and at 5.9MB it's hardly going to eat up your storage.
Wave Destroyer is available for both Windows (64-bit VST) and Mac (64-bit VST/AU) and can be downloaded for free or with an name your price donation using the link below. Please be aware that it is incompatible with macOS Catalina.
