Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
Over the years Full Bucket Music has become renowned for creating excellent free emulations of classic hardware, with a strong focus on Korg products. Their most recent free plugin, Fury-800, continues that trend with an almost indiscernible emulation of the Korg Poly-800.
Fury-800 offers two DCOs per voice - a feature that was only available on the original Poly-800 in Double mode, which subsequently halved the polyphony. There are two waveforms with additive harmonics (16', 8', 4', 2'), a lowpass VCF, Noise, on-board sequencer and Chord Memory and a pseudo-stereo chorus effect.
As with all their digital emulations, Fury-800 has some enhancements compared to its original counterpart including 64 voices of polyphony and a 'God Mode' for real polyphony. Thanks to being written in native C++ it also promises high performance on even the lightest systems.
Though it's not 100% identical to the Poly-800, we would be a very picky bunch to say that this was anything but a stellar emulation of a classic synth. If you've never had the chance to play the original this is a great opportunity to remedy that.
Fury-800 is available to download for free using the link below, though donations are accepted, and is compatible for Windows (32 bit and 64 bit) and macOS (64 bit).
