Free Software Friday - BPB Dirty Filter

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

This week, our top pick of free software that's been released comes from the good folks over at Bedroom Producers Blog, who have released the BPB Dirty Filter, a dual filter effect with tube distortion.

Dirty Filter's UI keeps things clean and simple. Across its five knobs, you can tweak both the high and low-pass filters, the Slope which affects the decibels per octave (12, 24, 36 or 48), the Volume, Mix and the Drive.

There's good reason to leave Drive till last and that's because it not only controls the resonance of both filters, but also the tube distortion applied to the signal. This means that the sound produced is akin to a multi-band distortion and yields some amazing results.

Dirty Filter's applications can range from removing low-frequency hum to high-frequency noise, adding some oomph to your percussion, and of course for completely destroying your audio through excessive drive.

You can download Dirty Filter for Windows and macOS (VST, VST3, AU, and AAX plugin formats, 32/64-bit) for free using the link below and it will work on pretty much any DAW you can think of.
