Zoom launch one of the most unique looking music products of 2016. But will their ARQ drum machine be a brilliant new interface for performance and production, or just another gimmick design that never takes off?
Announced at NAMM 2016, the Zoom ARQ Aero RhythmTrak is definitely a futuristic looking piece of kit. Zoom tell us that ARQ is designed to be a multi-functional device with a drum machine, sequencer, synthesizer, looper, and MIDI controller all combined. Plus, just like in your mobile phone, there's a built-in accelerometer, so you can wave it around for additional features and functions.
And the ARQ's forward-looking functions don't stop there, its wireless Bluetooth connection means you can shake it anywhere, like some sort of cyber-tambourine. Check the video below to see it in action.
Pricing has been announced in the US at $599 but no word on UK pricing yet. Availability is meant to be around April 2016.
