dBs Institute has merged with Access Creative College to offer students the best start to their creative career anywhere in the UK. Here’s everything you need to know about this exciting new chapter.
Throughout the years, we’ve taken major strides to prepare students for the sound and music industries.
Since starting out as a small studio in Plymouth, we’ve steadily developed our facilities, grown our community and evolved our course provision from a single sound engineering qualification to a range of professionally targeted degrees. We’ve opened a second campus in Bristol, launched a future-focused programme for postgraduate students and built dBs Pro, our in-house creative audio company, from the ground up.
The fact is, whether we’re looking for new ways to improve the student experience or opportunities to push the boundaries of sound, at dBs we believe there’s always more to explore. This commitment to continuous development is captured in our core value ‘Never Settle’. It has been the driving force behind our evolution to date and it has guided us in our decision to embark on our next chapter, which sees us join forces with fellow creative education specialists, Access Creative College.
Introducing Access Creative College
Access Creative College (ACC) is a leading independent college for the creative industries. Specialising in college-level and foundation degree courses, ACC delivers vocational education to over 3,000 students at campuses in major cities across England.
Just like dBs, ACC’s roots are in music. They began life as ‘Access to Music’ and over their thirty-year lifespan, have gradually broadened out their provision to offer training in games, computing, media and events. Having recently secured investment from Apiary Capital, ACC is committed to helping as many young people as possible turn their creativity into a career and have ambitious plans to make this vision a reality.
We know a like-minded institution when we see one. So, when ACC approached us about partnering up to provide aspiring creatives with a truly connected learning journey from leaving school to degree level, the choice was easy.
What does this mean for you?
This new chapter for both dBs and ACC only means great things for students of both organisations and for the wider creative industry as we combine our decades of experience to continue to offer the best start to a creative career anywhere in the UK.
The partnership will see dBs hand over the provision of our pre-degree diploma courses to ACC, including our access to higher education diplomas. This will allow us to focus on our degree-level courses, creating space for us to expand into new subject areas and locations across the UK.
The dBs FE Plymouth site will be transformed into Access Creative College Plymouth. Alongside this, current dBs students will gain access to all ACC facilities including their recently launched Access Creative College Bristol, their broader industry related curriculum including extensive learner support services and a nationwide network of like-minded creatives, amongst many other exciting things.
We’re over the moon to join the ACC family and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this special new relationship that allows us to continue growing our community and offer our specialist teaching and state-of-the-art facilities to more students across the UK.
And there's still so much more to come! We’ll keep you posted on all our upcoming plans but for the time being, if you have any questions about this new chapter in our story, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
