Free Software Friday - 6 Pro Tips to Get You Motivated and Inspired

Crystal Mad's 5 Essential Tips for Festival DJs

We're now deep into festival season so we felt it was the perfect time to ask our very own Matt Radley aka Crystal Mad for some advice on playing the biggest gig of your life!

dBs Music Plymouth tutor Matt Radley aka Crystal Mad is fast becoming one of the world's most sought-after Hardstyle artists. Having signed to the infamous Nightbreed Records, Matt's onslaught of cutting edge and critically-acclaimed releases has led to him becoming a regular on the global Hard Dance festival circuit.

With a large number of high profile gigs under his belt, and having played Defqon.1 numerous times, we caught up with Matt to get some tips on how to prepare for your festival slot!

1. Take time to prepare and get in the zone

Turn up early to the festival so you can walk around, check out all of the other stages, engage with other artists and partygoers. Also allow yourself some time to relax, calm the nerves and get focussed.

2. Make sure you've got your gear

It may seem obvious but make sure you have got your headphones and USB sticks with you, bring a backup USB or even a CD wallet.

3. Keep the energy up

Make sure your performance has a lot of energy. Playing tracks with long breaks and build-ups gives people a chance to go to the toilet, grab a beer or check out another stage. Nobody ever leaves during a drop as they are dancing!

4. Film your performance

Having video/image content of you performing on these stages is so important for your social media platforms. It allows you to engage with people after the performance and is a great way to help build your profile.

5. Enjoy yourself

Once your set has finished your job is done, so jump over the barrier and get stuck into the party with everyone else!
