Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
Nostalgia is usually at the heart of Free Software Friday, but rather than an emulation of classic synth, Reflekt Audio's GameX plugin draws its inspiration from the sounds of Nintendo's era-defining Game Boy.
The free plugin is made up of 85 game sound one-shots ranging from invalid responses, option selections, error signals, beeps and more. The Game Boy's inspiration on GameX continues into its interface, which makes navigating the library of sounds very simple.
Each sound was designed inside Teenage Engineering's OP-1 and can be tweaked using ADSR controls, reverb, glide, gain and pan, as well as pitch and filter options.
GameX is free for both Windows and Mac and works in most major DAWs (no Pro Tools support) and can be downloaded using the link below.
