Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
Rather than yet another new synth or set of samples to add to what is most probably an already stacked folder, today's free software is a handy phase scope utility from MAAT Digital: GŌN.
Designed to be both simple and happy to sit in the background, GŌN replicates an analog oscilloscope and displays global trends and troubles, and features a visual out-of-phase warning built in.
The simple UX is reduced down to a single button, the preference’s gear icon at upper right, which allows users to control gain, focus, “phosphor” (colour in this instance), drawing style and persistence; all of which can be saved as a personal preset.
There's also a really useful auto-gain feature ensuring you see an understandable display for signals with a broader range of amplitudes.
The plugin is resizable and can take centre stage or sit in the background alongside other plugins, and thanks to its minimal CPU usage there's no issues with it running indefinitely, allowing you to keep an eye on any potential phasing issues.
GŌN is free to download for both Windows and macOS (32-bit & 64-bit VST/VST3/AU/AAX) using the link below.
