Free Software Friday - KSHMR Essentials Kick

Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.

Whether you're looking for a free tool to help bring your kick sounds forward in the mix or experiment in some sound design creation, the KSHMR Essentials Kick offers some great options without any outlay.

A lite version of the KSHMR Essentials plugin, Essentials Kick strips things down to a single bank of controls. What's on offer is 8 modules to help shape your sound: sub, mid, air, trans, tape, pressure, comp and width. These macro controls are paired with a realtime frequency spectrum analyser.

Ease-of-use is at the heart of this plugin, hence the simplified controls that keep all the detail working behind the scenes. This simplicity has come at a slight cost as controls like wet/dry mix, volume, A/B and preset menu are not included.

As many of the controls on offer here would be administered using an EQ in the mixing stage, it may not be that useful for experienced producers, but if you're a beginner or just in the mood to experiment with a free tool, we highly recommend giving KSHMR Essentials Kick a go.

It's available to download for free on both Windows and macOS (VST, AU, AAX, 32-bit and 64-bit) using the link below.
