Free Software Friday is our regular Friday feature here at the dBs Music blog. We dig the depths of the music production and media webosphere and discover what downloadable plugin freebies are worth double clicking each week.
There's something great about discovering games out of there natural home. Whether it was playing snake on YouTube or the endless Dinosaur-runner when Chrome couldn't connect to the internet, there's something simple and charming about these unexpected diversions. Whilst you're unlikely to find one hidden away in your DAW, Klevgrand has developed 3 DAW Games that won't help your productivity, but will put a smile on your face.
There's more than meets the eye with these retro games too. Though Kletris is a simple clone of the classic block game, Flappy Mix and FFT Fight take inspiration from other games but use the audio waveforms to inform the levels. Flappy Mix is a side-scroller that sees you control a small yellow dot, navigating the peaks and troughs of the waveform, while FFT Fight has you dodging falling objects that are generated by the input audio waveform.
As we said, for those of you on deadlines this is the worst kind of distraction, but if you need to take a break without leaving your DAW, you can't really fault these free games.
Klevgrand's DAW Games are available for PC and Mac and can be downloaded from the link below.
